Bengaluru: "SickleCert," Indias first locally produced sickle-cell anemia diagnosis kit, was created by a health technology business incubated at the Society for Innovation and Development of the Indian Institute of Science.

The company, ShanMukha Innovations, has also created a screening test kit named "SickleFind". The researchers stated that as a point-of-care test for sickle-cell anemia, the technique offers an economical and effective way to screen huge populations. They have developed high-performance optical spectroscopy (HPOS) technology, which consists of test kits (SickleCert) and portable analyzers (HaemoCube). In the press release, the company stated that it had been granted a licence to commercialise the technology.

Moreover, they have developed an additional smartphone app that allows digital data collection, analysis, and interaction with multiple registries, such as the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) and other cloud-based patient health record systems.

Professor Dr. Sai Siva Gorthi, an associate professor in the Instrumentation and Applied Physics Department at IISc, noted that more than 40 samples may be examined in an hour when used in batch mode, allowing for the completion of many screens in a shorter amount of time. He added that the test yielded a highly reliable result in 15 minutes and used a minimal amount of blood from a finger prick.
